3G iPhone

So I am sure everyone heard about the new 3G iPhone announced yesterday. Yada yada yada no need for a post about that, I think the real question that no one is addressing is when is the price of the Touch going to go down.

The new iPhone costs 199 for the 8GB and 299 for the 16GB, while the Touch costs 299 for the 8GB and 399 for the 16GB. Is this a discount on the iPhone like with normal phones on a new contract?

Regardless it seems backwards to me that the iPhone costs less than the Touch eventhough it’s just a dumbed down version.

Long story short I want an iPod Touch and I am whiney.

Taking a bit out of Apple

RANT WARNING

First i apologize for the bad heading but I am not too happy with our good friends apple. I have been a big fan of apple for a while, but lately geeze you guys need to calm down.

Fist apple is suing New York city for using an apple in its logo. Are you frakin’ serious? How long has New York been the big apple?? Well I don’t know and I am too lazy to look it up, but I am going to say longer than Steve Jobs has even been alive. This is just as bad as the recent T-Mobile suing Engadget Mobile for using a similar shade of purple in their logo.

Now you want to piss me off more?? I do not want SAFARI!! If i wanted it I would have downloaded it myself. I thought about it, I really did, but now that its in every software update that apple pushes out I’m not going to download it. A software update is to, get this, update software. If i don’t have it, then there is nothing to update. Don’t take advantage of the fact that everyone has iTunes and doesn’t notice what they are downloading. Thats an unacceptable line to cross.

Oh also whats the point of a $16,000 laptop that doesn’t have a cd or dvd-drive or a sleek touch screen phone without 3G.

Apple, this is your warning.

(NOTE: This is an empty threat, I wouldn’t even hit a child, but then again thats probably because most children are tougher than I am.)

Object dock – just when I thought life couldn’t get easier

I downloaded Object Dock for my work computer and I have to say I am a believer. This is one of the best web 2.0 programs I have ever used. Object dock is basically a program for shortcuts. It doesn’t sound that impressive but let me explain.

First lets compair to Del.icio.us. A greast website, that I use daily. (for those of you unfamiliar with Del.icio.us, it is a social bookmark website. Wikipedia has a great explanation.) But this isn’t just for website shortcuts, ObjectDock is on your desktop and can be used very well for shortcuts to websites you check daily. (My list of Internet shortcuts is Briancarl.com, Digg.com, and of course Del.icio.us, which honesty i visit more than the last two.)
Then the next obvious comparison is the Mac. It looks like a Mac and feels like a Mac, but with all the positives of using a PC. The big difference here is that you can use ObjectDock to link to your programs on your hard-drive. (I link to Word, Photoshop, My Documents, plus others) You can even have it run on the bottom of your screen and have the Windows Start bar hide and this will completely replace it. (although I would not recommend this)
The biggest plus not listed on here is that Object Dock can be made to hide when it is not in use and then show up when you hover. I use mine on the right side of my screen and when the time comes hover it and it pops out no problem so I don’t have to minimize everything I am running so that I can open something new.
One of the most important feature of any applicatio, the interface. ObjectDock has such a clear and very customizable interface. You can download new skins, but ObjectDock comes with great options as is. (I use Glass Vista) The best feature of the skins is that you can make them transparent. My good friend Carter (who turned me onto ObjectDock) doesn’t even know what skin he uses anymore, because he has it fully transparent.
