Airplane Etiquette – Or how to look like a fool in front of co-workers

by Brian Carl on January 20, 2008

After just getting back from my trip there are a few issues I would like to address, there are other airplane ettiquette posts out there but none seemed to hit these core rules:

1: Do not stay out too late the night before flying. It sounds like a good idea, you can sleep through the flight and all, but when you fall asleep and you are in the isle seat and the older woman sitting next to you has to climb over the seat in front of her to get to the rest room it is apparently rude.

2: AND for god sakes if you do not follow rule 1 at least wake up so she doesn’t have to climb back over. All though it probably isn’t any worse, but it will make the story spread faster among your peers.

3. Do not kick the seat of the person in front of you, unless they have committed a foul play. If they are being loud or obnoxious then a few light kicks are acceptable, especially if you have long legs. Full on kicks are only acceptable in one situation…..

4. If you recline, ask the person behind you. IF YOU DO NOT AND IT IS ME SITTING BEHIND YOU I WILL KICK YOUR CHAIR and I would encourage the rest of you to do the same. That is the only way to end this epidemic that is sweeping planes nation wide. This happens to me on 50% of my flights.
